In addition to offering an opportunity to train under great teachers, the Aikido University Workshop seeks to accomplish three main goals:

  • Bringing the community together - We all have a common passion for aikido.  It is a great joy to be able to share it with people who are outside our usual training group.
  • An event that is accessible to students - By making the event free for and tailored to university students we encourage the next generation!
  • Social good - People who practice aikido tend to be socially conscious.  This event allows them to come together around this intention.  A portion of proceeds will go to a local environmental non-profit.

The Aikido University Workshop Started in 2018 to create an Aikido Event that is accessible to Aikido Students at the Colorado School of Mines to bring them together with the greater Aikido community.  Since then it has expanded to include CU Boulder and Naropa and has become one of the most exiting community oriented events in the area.  This year we are highlighting some of the younger instructors in the area: Randy Thompson from the One Dojo, Ryan Abo from Denver Buddhist Temple Aikido, and Geneviève Morrison of the CSM Aikido Club and Ten Chi Aikido - the first time an instructor at this event has been a student member of a university group!

Geneviève Morrison has trained in aikido for eight years, primarily at Ten Chi Aikido (formerly Aikido Koshin Shuri) in Colorado Springs.  She is one of the youngest black belts in the area and currently trains with the Colorado School of Mines Aikido Club.

Ryan Abo is an instructor at DBT Aikido and practices Tomiki Aikido. Having competed in two international tournaments, Ryan brings a wealth of competitive experience to his teaching. With a dedication to both the traditional principles and the sport application of Aikido, Ryan is passionate about Aikido as an art form and a way of life.

Randy Thompson focuses on passing on the mind-body coordination from Ki Aikido founder, Soshu Koichi Tohei Sensei, through teaching effective martial technique.  He teaches Intermediate Ki Aikido at One Dojo.
